Little House in the Big Woods

Why Little House in the Big Woods as a title for a blog? Well, it is simple: we live in the woods of south central Massachusetts. I think back to my favorite childhood books (Laura Ingalls Wilder series) and I think of Laura and how her mother homeschooled her on the frontier. So, the name seems fitting. Plus, I have read many sites about homeschooling and found that many of the sites talk about homeschooling younger children. I wanted to show families that you can homeschool middle and high school children too.
I plan to track our homeschool days (good and bad) to show what it is like in our home. Well, to be honest we haven’t started the new school year as we are currently on summer break. Our first official day of school is 27 August 07. So, let me introduce you to my students (my children) Kiani (17), Ashleigh (13), and Jason (12). This will be our last year of homeschooling Kiani. We decided to go a different route with her this year and we signed her up for the Abeka Academy, but I still need to be involved (grading or following up on assignments etc…). We did that so she could get a diploma and a transcript.
As for Jason and Ashleigh, we are going to use traditional textbooks. I have been planning their school year all summer and hopefully I will have it all planned out by the end of summer. I am half-way there. After 6 years, going on 7, of homeschooling, planning ahead works best for us.
I hope you enjoy reading about our homeschooling days.

Oh I love Little House on The Prairie!
Some of my husband’s relatives still live on Massachusetts. We visited once. He’s from Connecticut.
Thank you for the comment!! Don’t worry we got him out before the trash pick up!! LOL!!
