The Plan

My plan this week is to cut our grocery bill in half. I usually go to the grocery store every two weeks but have to always go back and get milk. Which ended up with buying more than we need. I have been researching the internet and I must say my head is spinning. There is a lot advice of there on cutting cost. I came to the conclusion that homemade is better and cheaper, if you have the time. I have been researching for recipes that easily and homemade. I have found a few and plan on trying them. So, here is the plan.

  • Go shopping for one week only instead of two
  • Plan out all the meals
  • Make homemade items. (e.g. taco seasoning, homemade granola bars, and desserts)
  • Stick to a list
  • Keep track of expenses
  • Keep dollar amount to $150 a week.

In the past, I would spend about $500 at once for two weeks and still have to go back for more. Usually for milk, eggs, and fruit. Our grocery bill is getting out of control and it is time to cut back. By sticking to this plan, this should cut our bill in half. I figured our old bill to be about $1200 a month if not more.

I totally need to stick to my list. It’s crazy how all the “extra’s” add up!! I try to plan the meals, then I get lazy and make dh bring home dinner. So bad!

You should totally have no problem keeping it under $150 a week on your budget! I do the same and even keep it under $100! Everything is homemade, that I can do and we have jared tomatoes from previous years, jams, jellies and other veggies. It works, good luck!
