The Results of the Plan
Here are the results of today’s grocery shopping trip. Did I meet my goals? I honestly have to say “NO”, but I am not discouraged. These are long term goals. Here are my notes about today’s trip.
- Goal: Go shopping for a week instead of two. Result: This one, I actually completed.
- Goal: Plan out all the meals. Result: This one, I also completed.
- Goal: Make homemade items. Result: Bought all the stuff to make the items.
- Goal: Stick to a list. Result: I didn’t do this. I bought things that weren’t on the list. I kept remembering stuff in the store that I didn’t put on the list.
- Goal: Keep track of expenses. Result: Yes
- Goal: Keep dollar amount to $150 a week. Result: This is a big fat no because I bought additional items not on the list. I missed the budget goal by $65. I am justifying it because some of the items I bought today will last longer than a week. I am also hoping that this will balance out in next week’s shopping trip. The items I bought today that I am justifying are…
- Three Birthday Cards.— This is not a grocery item, but it comes from the household budget.
- Flour
- Brown sugar
- Honey
- Quick-cooking oats
- Sugar in the Raw
Tomorrow, the plan is make the homemade items. I already made the instant oatmeal. I still have 6 more items that I plan to do.

Birthday cards are not grocery. And I am sure that the items you bought extra will balance out…although $65 seems high! Did you buy in bulk?

I think there are a few things that I am doing wrong and would love to hear any suggestions. I do buy organic whenever I can, which cost more. I am also still in the mind frame of shopping for two weeks. I stock up on a few things, hoping they will last more than just one week.
