Tackle it Tuesday

July 29th, 2008

Our tackle for this week is getting ready for the school year. Here is the list of things that must be done.

  1. Send off Letter of Intent to school district
  2. Tape all the binding on the school books. (This helps the book from tearing in the middle of school year.)
  3. Check all supplies and buy items needed.
  4. Prepare binders for each subject.
  5. Make a school schedule for the children
  6. Review teaching materials.

This is always a big tackle and one I get excited and dread doing. I am excited about the new school but hate all the work that has to be done before hand. We will be using A Beka this year. They have a correspondence courses. They keep track of everything (transcripts, grades and will issue an high school diploma once all courses are completed) It is a great program for high schoolers. For more information about Abeka click here.

Weather and Electronics don’t mix.

July 27th, 2008

We had really strong thunder and lightening storms come through last Wednesday.  We lost power to our home for about six hours. When we final got our power back on, we realized we lost more than a few hours of electricity. We lost our phones and the internet. We have Vonyage phones. After the storm was over my sweet hubby ran to Wal-mart and bought a cheap internet modem. This gave us a temporary fix for the internet. My hubby works from home and he needs to internet to work. The next day my sweet hubby soon realized that we needed to replace all the electronics for the computers. The computers were not ruin by the storms but the modem, router, Vonyage box for the phones, the phones, and the hub were ruined.  My hubby decided it would be a good idea to protect these items. He bought a battery back up with surge protector.  Hopefully, this will protect us for any other power failures. Today, we went and got new phones for the house. Here is a picture of them.

What not to do during a Thunderstrom.

July 24th, 2008

Yesterday, it was a raining day. I thought it would be a great day to make bread. It was not hot or humid. It was nice and cool. It wasn’t raining hard just a steady rain. I started making the bread and set aside to raise. Then all of sudden there was a loud crack. It was so loud that it shook the whole house. My daughter scream because it scared her. Then it happen all the lights went out. We lost power. I thought no big deal. We will get power in a few minutes. I was wrong it took six hours for us to get power back. So, I would let the bread raise to the point it was also out of the pan. It rose a total of four times before I had power in the house to bake it. The amazing part it taste good.
